Brunei logs 37.3-pct rise in total trade in August

Bandar Seri Begawan [Brunei], November 9: Brunei's total trade was recorded at 2,771.3 million Brunei dollars (1,967.6 million U.S. dollars) in August, an increase of 37.3 percent year-on-year.
The latest International Merchandise Trade Statistics released on Tuesday by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy showed that Brunei's exports grew by 35.3 percent year-on-year to 1,687.0 million Brunei dollars largely on increasing mineral fuel exports.
Imports increased by 40.4 percent year-on-year to 1,084.3 million Brunei dollars in August.
In August, the highest share of exports went to Malaysia with 23.2 percent, followed by Australia with 22.0 percent and Singapore with 18.8 percent.
The highest share of imports went to Malaysia with 41.2 percent, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 13.7 percent and China with 11.2 percent. (1 Brunei dollar equals about 0.71 U.S. dollar)
