Foreign residents in Albania up by 9.6 pct y-o-y in 2021

Tirana [Albania], August 23:The number of foreign residents in Albania in 2021 was 14,921, an increase of 9.6 percent compared with a year earlier, the country's Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) said on Monday.
According to a press release from INSTAT, the number of foreign residents in 2021 was dominated by males with 63 percent versus females with 37 percent. Regionally speaking, foreign residents of European origin constitute the largest share and amount to 59.1 percent compared with 56.8 percent in 2020.
A total of 9,106 applications for residence permits were registered in Albania in 2021, an increase of 18.9 percent compared to the year 2020. The main reason for the issued residence permits of foreigners in Albania in 2021 is employment, with 47.7 percent, followed by reasons of family reunification with 24.1 percent, humanitarian purposes with 17.8 percent, and studies with 2.8 percent.
