Nepali government websites disrupted by hacker attack

Kathmandu [Nepal], January 29: Following a cyber attack on Saturday, all websites run by the Nepali government were temporarily disrupted, according to officials.Ramesh Prasad Pokhrel, a spokesperson for the National Information Technology Centre, said the government servers were down for around three hours on Saturday afternoon, briefly disrupting government operations.The identity of the hackers and the motivation for the attack are not yet known.The country's only international airport currently in operation, the Tribhuvan International Airport, was also affected by the cyber attack, according to PremNath Thakur, the airport's general manager."Airport immigration was forced to halt its service for around an hour and 15 minutes after its server went down.Four international flights were delayed," Thakur told dpa.Saturday's attack is believed to be the worst cyber attack since 2017 when hackers reportedly accessed 19 major government websites.Source: Qatar Tribune
