Nigerian police nab 46 suspected criminals in southern state

Lagos [Nigeria], May 7: Nigerian police have nabbed 46 suspected criminals in the latest crackdown on criminals in the nation's southern state of Enugu, local police said Friday.
LawalAbubakar, the police chief in Enugu, said in a statement the suspects were arrested for various offenses including conspiracy, murder, rape/defilement, kidnapping/abduction, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, theft, vandalism, and cultism between March and April in the state.
The police chief said the operational successes led to the rescue of four kidnapped victims and the recovery of 25 firearms of different makes and 31 live ammunition of different calibers.
Abubakar said the other items recovered were 53 live cartridges, three vehicles, six tricycles, two motorcycles, and other incriminating items.
He lauded the support received from security stakeholders that made the achievement of the operational breakthroughs possible within the state.
The police chief called on citizens to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and continue to support the police by promptly reporting criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.
In recent months, there have been a series of gunmen attacks on civilians and security operatives in the most populous African country.
