Moscow [Russia], August 17: The death toll has risen to at least 11, with 130 injured, following a major explosion and fire at a munitions factory in Russia's Ryazan region, authorities said on Saturday.
Regional Governor Pavel Malkov declared Monday as a day of mourning to commemorate the victims.
A civil defence official told the Russian TASS news agency that their teams were continuing to work at the site of the accident. Malkov initially described the incident on Telegram as a fire at a factory, but Russian state media reported that the factory produced gunpowder and explosives.
One factory building reportedly collapsed and at least one injured person was rescued from the rubble. Photo and video footage showed a fire and a thick cloud of smoke. (DPA)
