Mannheim [Germany], July 30: Fifteen workers at German chemical company BASF suffered minor injuries in a fire caused by an explosion at the main plant in Ludwigshafen, the company and police said on Monday.
The employees were examined in the plant ambulance as a precautionary measure, but were able to leave again afterwards, the company said.
The plant's fire brigade extinguished the blaze that broke out at the world's largest chemical company.
Environmental monitoring vehicles detected slightly elevated levels of hydrocarbons within the site and in areas neighbouring the plant.
"There was no danger to the population at any time," the company said.
