3 killed in traffic accident in south Germany

Berlin [Germany], March 9: A fatal traffic accident caused by a failed overtaking attempt occurred in the southern German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg on Saturday, leaving three people dead and four others severely injured, local police said.
The accident took place on a highway near Haigerloch at around 9:30 a.m. local time. According to police, a 32-year-old driver attempted to overtake a vehicle in the left lane of the two-lane road but lost control, skidding into oncoming traffic and colliding with an approaching van.
The 44-year-old van driver and two passengers sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, while two other passengers were severely injured and transported to the hospital. The driver responsible for the accident and his passenger were also seriously injured and had to be rescued from their heavily damaged vehicle.
Police said investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
