Azerbaijan says it foiled attack on embassy in Baku

Baku [Azerbaijan], January 28: Three men linked to the Islamic State extremist militia have been detained in connection with plans to attack a foreign embassy in
Baku, the Azerbaijan State Security Service reported on Tuesday.
It named the men, linking them to the Afghan-based Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISPK) branch of Islamic State and said they were acting "on the grounds of religious hostility."
They said the men, all citizens of Azerbaijan, had procured weapons and were approaching the embassy when the attack was thwarted.
It did not disclose which embassy was targeted nor the exact timing of the arrests.
Israeli media reported that the target had been the Israeli embassy.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar visited Azerbaijan at the head of a large business delegation on Monday.
ISPK drew international attention after claiming responsibility for an attack on a Moscow concert hall in March 2024 that killed nearly 150 people. (DPA)
