Jan 23, 2026

Dhaka [Bangladesh], January 23: Political parties and independent candidates on Thursday launched campaigns for Bangladesh's first national election since a violent uprising toppled former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's government in August 2024.
More than 127 million voters are eligible to cast ballots in the election, scheduled for February 12, to choose representatives for 300 parliamentary constituencies.
The election is being supervised by an interim administration headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who assumed office just days after the ouster of Hasina, who had run the country for 15 consecutive years.(DPA)
