Bolivian electoral tribunal bars Evo Morales from standing for election

May 22, 2025

Buenos Aires [Argentina], May 22: Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal has barred former president Evo Morales from taking part in the presidential election in August.
Morales, who governed the country from 2006 to 2019, was not properly registered as a candidate as his party had lost its registration, the court said. The South American country's Constitutional Court had already ruled that presidents are limited to a maximum of two terms, effectively prohibiting Morales from running again.
The tribunal also rejected Senate President Andronico Rodríguez's registration on technical reasons for the time being. The 36-year-old had only recently announced his candidacy and was considered a left-wing hopeful. (DPA)
