China warns of chaos and 'vicious circle' in Middle East if Iran war continues

Mar 24, 2026

Beijing [China], March 24: The Middle East could be "plunged into chaos" if the war on Iran intensifies, the Chinese Foreign Ministry warned on Monday. "If the conflict continues to expand and the situation once again escalates, the whole region will be plunged into chaos. Force will only lead to a vicious circle," spokesman Lin Jian said in response to a journalist's question on an ultimatum set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. China's special envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, warned of unbearable consequences from the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz following a recent visit to the region and talks with Arab nations.
