Chinese national detained at Milan airport over US espionage claims

Rome [Italy], July 8: A Chinese national has been detained at a Milan airport over suspicion of espionage in the United States.
Italy's ANSA news agency reported on Monday that the 33-year-old man was accused by the FBI of involvement in a hacker group that allegedly spied on COVID-19 vaccine research data at the University of Texas in 2020.
The arrest occurred on Thursday as the man arrived at Milan Malpensa Airport from Shanghai.
The man was facing an international arrest warrant. He maintains his innocence but is currently in custody. According to ANSA, the suspect is accused of cyberfraud and aggravated identity theft, having been accused of spying on universities, immunologists and virologists in the US. (DPA)
