Pyongyang [North Korea], September 3: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived in the Chinese capital Beijing by train this afternoon, September 2, according to KCNA news agency.
Mr. Kim Jong-un arrived at Beijing Railway Station at 4 p.m. on September 2 and was welcomed by Chinese Communist Party Politburo Standing Committee member Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to KCNA.
South Korea's National Intelligence Service said Mr Kim appeared to be accompanied by his daughter Kim Ju-ae, according to AFP. Photos released showed the leader's daughter appearing next to him.
AFP reporters earlier saw a train flying the North Korean flag and believed to be carrying Mr Kim approaching the station.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency also reported that a special armored train believed to be carrying Mr. Kim had arrived in the capital Beijing.
Earlier, the Rodong Sinmun newspaper , the mouthpiece of the Workers' Party of Korea, reported that Kim Jong-un left Pyongyang on September 1 and arrived in China early in the morning of September 2.
Xinhua News Agency also posted a photo this afternoon with the caption: Mr. Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, arrived in Beijing on September 2 to attend the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japan and the world's anti-fascist war.
Mr. Kim will join Chinese President Xi Jinping , Russian President Vladimir Putin and dozens of other leaders at events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. China will hold a major military parade in Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3.
This is only Kim Jong-un's second foreign trip in six years and his first trip to China since 2019, according to AFP.
