Europe's Group of Five political and military powers stand behind Ukraine

Mar 04, 2025

Berlin [Germany], March 4: Representatives of Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Poland reaffirmed their political and military aid for Ukraine on Monday.
The NATO members convened via video in the Group of Five defence cooperation format. "All agree that [Ukraine] can rely on the continued and broad support of the Group of Five," the German Defence Ministry said in a statement after the meeting.
The meeting was called at short notice following a heated exchange between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House last week.
The row sparked fears that Washington could pull its critical support for Kiev as ties with Russia warm.
The next meeting of the Group of Five is scheduled for March 12 in Paris. The overall aim of the group is to strengthen European security and defence readiness. (DPA)
