Hanoi [Vietnam], August 22: The data leak at the Tribeca Film Festival resulted in the disclosure of personal information on a host of famous celebrities.
A host of Hollywood stars are reportedly very worried following the large-scale cyberattack on the Tribeca Film Festival. The incident exposed a lot of sensitive personal information, making top Hollywood figures potential targets for identity theft, online fraud, and various other forms of attacks aimed at stealing assets.
"Some of the biggest names in the film industry are extremely worried that the secrets they've guarded most closely could be exposed," a Hollywood source told Radar Online on August 21.
Tribeca Film Festival is urgently addressing the incident.
The serious leak was discovered by Jeremiah Fowler, a "white-hat hacker," a cybersecurity expert who finds and warns about security vulnerabilities rather than exploiting them. Fowler discovered the unprotected database during a routine check. According to the announcement, the incident leaked over 666,000 internal data files of the Tribeca Film Festival, stored from 2019 to 2026.
Among the celebrities whose information appeared in the leaked database were film festival co-founder Robert De Niro, along with Angelina Jolie , Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Douglas, Steven Spielberg, Morgan Freeman, Kate Hudson, Ethan Hawke, Francis Ford Coppola, Neil Patrick Harris, Naomi Watts, Hilary Duff, Don Cheadle, Debra Messing, and Steven Tyler.
After being notified of the database leak, Tribeca Enterprises stated that it "is actively investigating the matter and all information was deleted immediately upon discovery."
The incident reminded many of one of the most shocking cyberattacks ever to hit Hollywood. In 2014, Sony Pictures was the victim of a cyberattack carried out by the Guardians of Peace group. That incident resulted in the leak of numerous internal emails from the studio, revealing private information and sensitive secrets related to approximately 100 celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Aniston, and Cameron Diaz.
