Munich [Germany], March 27: Angelique Kerber will play an official farewell match almost two years after retiring from tennis, a duel of former world number one players and grand slam winners against her close friend Ana Ivanovic. The Bild paper said on Thursday that the match will take place on June 20, the opening day of the grass court tournament in Bad Homburg, where Kerber won the title in 2021 and is now the tournament director. "It is the perfect stage for a special day with lots of emotions," Germany's Kerber told Bild. "I'm really looking forward to playing Ana, because in a way this match brings things full circle. We've known each other for a very long time; she's one of my best friends, and we've spent a lot of time together both on and off the court."Kerber, 38, won the Australian and US Open in 2016 as well as Wimbledon in 2018. She topped the world rankings for 34 weeks and retired at the Paris Olympics in 2024. Serbian Ivanovic is also a former number one and won the French Open in 2008. She retired at the end of 2016.
