MoCI urges public to report unjustified price hikes

Mar 06, 2026

Doha [Qatar], March 6: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has called on members of the public to actively report commercial violations in order to support market stability, enhance transparency, and safeguard consumer rights across the country.
In an awareness message issued to the public, the ministry reaffirmed its strong commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring fairness in commercial transactions. It encouraged citizens, residents, and visitors alike to promptly report any irregularities they may encounter while purchasing goods or services in the local market.
The ministry emphasised that public cooperation is a key pillar in maintaining a fair and well-regulated commercial environment. By reporting violations, consumers can help authorities detect and address unfair business practices, thereby contributing to a more transparent and balanced marketplace.
According to the ministry, several types of commercial violations should be reported to the authorities. These include unjustified price increases, exploitation of consumers, monopolistic practices, misleading promotions, and any suspicious commercial activities that may harm consumer interests or disrupt normal market operations.
MoCI noted that monitoring and regulating markets is a shared responsibility between authorities and the public. When consumers remain vigilant and report irregularities, it enables the relevant departments to take swift action against violators, ensure compliance with regulations, and prevent practices that may negatively affect the market or public trust.
The ministry has consistently strengthened its consumer protection mechanisms in recent years through enhanced inspections, stricter monitoring of commercial outlets, and the use of digital platforms that make it easier for consumers to communicate directly with authorities.
As part of these efforts, MoCI has encouraged individuals to submit reports, inquiries, and suggestions through multiple convenient channels. Consumers can access the ministry's digital services by scanning the QR codes provided for mobile platforms, visiting the official website, or contacting the dedicated consumer protection hotline at 16001.
