Moscow rules out talks on Ukraine with 'incompetent' EU officials

Moscow [Russia], January 26: Moscow on Sunday ruled out talks with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on ending the war in Ukraine, terming her and the bloc's leadership "incompetent."
The EU leadership lacks visionaries with a view to the future, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian state television.
"They are some untrained, incompetent functionaries who do not look to the future and are unable to comprehend the system of coordinates in existence today," he said.
The entire international relations system was suffering as a result, Peskov added.
He noted that the European Union has emerged from an imagined dependence on Russian oil and gas to dependence on the United States.
Peskov was particularly critical of Kallas, a former Estonian prime minister.
"With her we will never discuss anything at all, and the Americans will also not do so," he said.
Moscow would wait until she left office, he said.
Peskov spoke following talks in the United Arab Emirates on Friday and Saturday between Ukrainian and Russian representatives, with US mediators in attendance. (DPA)
