Saudi urges Trump to prioritise dialogue

Cairo [Egypt], August 3: Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has called on US President Donald Trump to "prioritise the language of dialogue" to achieve regional de-escalation amid US-Iran hostilities, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported on Sunday.
It comes after Trump said he had cancelled a planned new wave of military strikes against Iran because of what he described as progress towards a diplomatic agreement, also citing requests from Tehran and other countries in the Middle East to hold off on attacks.
During a phone conversation with Trump, Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler underlined the "necessity of prioritising the language of dialogue to de-escalate, and the importance of exerting all possible efforts to achieve a calmness that paves the way for diplomatic solutions," SPA reported.
Such an approach would "yield positive results for maintaining the security and stability of the region and prevent it from being drawn into a wider conflict." US news website Axios had earlier reported that the Saudi crown prince had spoken with Trump to express the kingdom's concerns over reports of planned new attacks. (DPA)
