Serbia faces extreme temperatures, health risks due to prolonged heatwave

Jun 22, 2024

Belgrade [Serbia], June 22: Serbians are bracing themselves for a severe heatwave that will peak over the weekend, with the country's hydrometeorological service expecting temperatures of between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius across the country.
On Thursday, the institute issued a red meteorological alert across most regions of Serbia, signaling the danger of severe weather conditions that may cause significant material damage and threaten human and animal life.
The situation in Serbia mirrors the heatwaves that have already impacted Cyprus, Greece, and Türkiye.
However, relief may be on the horizon as storms are expected to sweep across the country during the weekend, providing some respite from the scorching conditions.
The Institute of Public Health has expressed concerns about the health risks associated with the prolonged heatwave, urging citizens to take the necessary precautions and adhere to health advisories.
