Spanish party leaders meet over formation of new government

Aug 31, 2023

Madrid [Spain], August 31: A meeting between the heads of the two main parties in Spain has brought no progress in the difficult search for a new government.
Opposition leader Alberto NúñezFeijoo of the People's Party said he had found that Socialist caretaker Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez "would rather make pacts with separatists" than agree "a grand state pact" with him. The conservative People's Party won the early general election on July 23 ahead of the Socialists (PSOE).
A month later, Feijoo was mandated by King Felipe VI to form a government, although he has little chance of getting enough support from other parties. (DPA)
