Seoul [South Korea], July 3: After a 13-year absence, Tang Thanh Ha makes a comeback to the big screen with the role of Empress Nam Phuong in the film " The Last Empress ," directed by Bao Nhan - Namcito.
At the project launch event held on the afternoon of July 2nd in Ho Chi Minh City, the actress from the 80s generation impressed with her radiant beauty and slender figure, despite being a mother of three. She received significant media attention upon her return to showbiz after a period focusing on her business ventures and family.
Tang Thanh Ha opens up
Sharing the reason for her return to acting, Tang Thanh Ha said she received the invitation at the right time. According to the actress, at each stage of life, each person will have different choices and priorities. In the past, the 8X beauty wholeheartedly pursued her passion for art, so she has no regrets. After that, she spent 13 years fully dedicated to business and family. Looking back, Tang Thanh Ha believes that was a happy and fulfilling period for her.
Now that her children are older and her business is stable, the actress longs to once again live out her passion for acting. "When I received the offer, I was very nervous. Because it wasn't just a personal choice, but also a consideration of many different roles," she shared. "Especially when embodying a famous character, I get very nervous. But I don't want to regret it later. If I continue to live with what I've accomplished in the past, I'll miss out on so many wonderful experiences and excitements ahead," Tang Thanh Ha said.
With that thought in mind, Tang Thanh Ha decided to return to film with the project " The Last Empress." Returning to acting after a 13-year hiatus, the actress has a completely different mindset. She shared: "If you do everything with sincerity, effort, seriously, and with integrity, and find joy in your work, then it's already a beautiful journey."
In her new film, Tang Thanh Ha stars alongside Ma Ran Do. The "screen goddess" recounted that when she first met her younger co-star, she could only laugh because she "never thought she would be acting alongside someone 11 years younger than her."
At that time, it was a younger colleague who shared with Tang Thanh Ha: "Age doesn't matter, experience and emotion are what matter." After wearing the character's costume and rehearsing, although things weren't perfect, the actress from the 80s generation told the producer: "I think I can play Ma Ran Do."
Tang Thanh Ha added that throughout the pre-production process, she worked with the director to analyze the character's psychology and find the motivations for each line of dialogue. The actress empathized with the character because "beyond her title, she is also a woman, a wife, a mother, with joys, sorrows, and a yearning for happiness."
She further shared: "What I empathize with most about Nam Phuong in 'The Last Empress' is her role as a mother and a wife. I also understand some of the character's emotions."
The Last Empress revolves around the more than 10 years that Empress Nam Phuong lived within the Forbidden City, her marriage experiencing all its ups and downs until the day she left the Imperial Citadel (Hue) to begin a quiet life.
Besides Tang Thanh Ha, the film also features artists Dieu Duc, Hong Van, Than Thuy Ha, Tram Anh, Lanh Thanh, Cao Phat, and others. The film is expected to be released in March 2027.
