Aug 24, 2026

Reno (Nevada) [US], August 24: Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated in Nevada as a human-caused wildfire spread toward the northern outskirts of Reno.
About 42,000 residents were placed under active evacuation orders, with an additional 45,000 advised to prepare for departure as the Hawk Fire swept across roughly 13,000 acres (5,261 hectares), according to Reuters.
Three civilians and three emergency responders sustained injuries in the blaze, which remains under investigation.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in Washoe County, authorising National Guard support for aerial firefighting and local security operations. Officials confirmed that commercial flights at Reno-Tahoe International Airport were operating normally, as the facility remained outside the immediate evacuation zone.
