Trent Alexander-Arnold signs new multi-year contract with Liverpool

Jul 31, 2021

London (UK) July 31: Liverpool's England international right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until the end of June 2025, the club confirmed on Friday.
The 22-year-old made his first-team debut in October 2016 and has so far made 179 appearances for the club, winning a Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and European Supercup since then.
Although his form dipped at first last season, Alexander-Arnold improved as the campaign advanced, forcing his way into the preliminary England squad for the European Championships only for a thigh injury to rule him out of the tournament at the last moment.
"I'm honored to be given the opportunity and to be shown the trust in the club to be given an extension, so it was a no-brainer for me. The state the club is in and where I am at in my career is always a good option for me," the youth system product told the official Liverpool website.
"To extend [my contract] and make sure I'm here longer is always a good thing. It's the only club I've ever really known, so to be here for this amount of time and extending to be here for a longer amount of time is amazing for me and my family," he concluded.
There was further good news for Liverpool 24 hours earlier when central defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez returned to action in their warm-up game against Hertha Berlin.
Both players missed nearly all of last season due to cruciate knee ligament injuries and their absence was a key factor in the club's inability to defend the Premier League title they won in 2020 successfully.
