Trump angry with Putin for proposing new leadership in Ukraine

Mar 31, 2025

Washington [US], March 31: US President Donald Trump expressed his anger at Russian President Vladimir Putin in a US media interview on Sunday, even as he said he continued to count on another bilateral conversation with him in the coming days.
"I was very angry, pissed off when Putin started getting into Zelensky credibility and started talking about new leadership in Ukraine," Trump told US broadcaster NBC early on Sunday.
Trump also threatened to impose secondary tariffs on buyers of Russian oil, a move that could complicate Moscow's exports and reduce its foreign currency earnings. Major buyers of Russian oil include India and China, and such tariffs could lead to significant economic disruptions there.
Trump's last phone call with Putin took place on March 19 and he did not specify when the two leaders are set to speak again.
A portion of the NBC interview addressing Putin was shared by a White House account on social media platform X. NBC journalist Kristen Welker reported that Trump had called her to express his frustration at Putin amid ongoing US efforts to achieve a partial ceasefire in Ukraine.
