Trump defends Secretary Noem against impeachment pressure

Jan 29, 2026

Washington [US], January 29: Reuters reported on January 28 that Democratic leaders in the US House of Representatives have stated they will impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem if President Donald Trump does not remove her from office.
Two Republican senators , Thom Tillis and Lisa Murkowski, also believe that Noem should resign.
A wave of protests erupted over the federal government's campaign to arrest undocumented immigrants in cities and states controlled by Democratic politicians . Tensions peaked when the Department of Homeland Security accused two American citizens killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, of being the aggressors who provoked federal agents into firing, contradicting images from the scene.
President Trump sought to de-escalate tensions by suggesting he might withdraw some forces from Minneapolis. However, he dismissed the question of whether Secretary Noem should resign, following the shooting death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on January 24th by federal agents when he protested the immigration crackdown.
