Washington [US], January 24: US President Donald Trump delivered an online speech on January 23 at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, Switzerland.
According to CNN, President Trump 's speech was given in the context of his threat to impose higher tariffs on a number of countries and his desire to promote his economic and foreign policy agenda.
In his speech, the US leader criticized the policies of his predecessor Joe Biden, describing it as " economic chaos caused by the failed policies of the previous administration".
"What the world has witnessed in the last 72 hours is nothing less than a revolution of common sense," Mr. Trump stressed. "Our country will soon be stronger, wealthier, and more united than ever before, and the entire planet will become more peaceful and prosperous because of this incredible momentum."
On tariffs, President Trump urged world business leaders to manufacture their products in the United States to enjoy the lowest tariffs. In addition, Mr. Trump also reiterated his efforts to end federal support for the electric vehicle sector.
Recently, Mr. Trump signed an executive order that eliminates the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicle buyers along with federal support for charging stations and low-interest loans for traditional automakers.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict , President Trump said peace efforts between the parties are underway. "It's very important to do it. It's a real killing field. Millions of soldiers have died," according to Mr. Trump.
The US leader also reiterated his desire for all NATO member countries to spend 5% of their GDP on defense. "As we restore normalcy at home, we are moving quickly to bring strength, peace and stability abroad," Mr. Trump said.
"Right now spending is only at 2% and most countries didn't finish until I came along. I asked them to spend, and they spent, because the United States was actually paying the difference at that time," Trump said.
