Tunisia dismantles drug trafficking network, arrests 4

Tunis [Tunisia], February 19: Tunisian security forces have dismantled a drug trafficking network active in the southwestern province of Kebili and arrested four individuals, the General Directorate of National Security said Tuesday on its Facebook page.
"As part of ongoing efforts to combat the possession, consumption, and promotion of narcotic substances and to dismantle the networks involved, the security units have successfully uncovered an active drug trafficking network," it said in a statement.
The investigation began with the arrest of two individuals linked to drug trafficking, one of which was found to be the subject of 17 search warrants, the statement said, adding that two more individuals were apprehended subsequently.
Following the arrest, a search of one suspect's residence led to the discovery of 14 plaques of cannabis, an electronic scale, and a significant amount of cash, the statement said.
The public prosecution had authorized the suspects' detention pending investigation.
The Tunisian government has taken a strong stance against drug trafficking, arresting hundreds of individuals involved in the crime during recent nationwide operations.
