Jan 15, 2025

Tunis [Tunisia], January 15: Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti on Tuesday expressed concern over the "stagnation of investigations" by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into the situation in Palestine.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with an ICC delegation, according to a statement released by the ministry.
The ICC delegation was composed of ICC First Vice-President Rosario Salvatore Aitala and Tunisian judge at the court Haykel Ben Mahfoudh.
During the meeting, Nafti hailed the relations between Tunisia and the ICC, expressing pride in Tunisia's membership in the court.
The Tunisian minister also reiterated his country's support for the rights of the Palestinian people. He urged the court to carry out its role in ensuring those who "commit crimes" against Palestinians are held accountable.
For his part, Aitala expressed his satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tunisia and the ICC since Tunisia's accession in 2011.
Discussions also touched on the conditions under which the court's judges perform their duties and the importance of taking necessary measures to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities with impartiality and independence and free from any form of pressure or political exploitation, according to the statement.
