Kiev [Ukraine], October 29: Ukraine needs to import an additional 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to smoothly run through the cold heating season, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported on Tuesday, citing a senior official.
Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Ukraine's state-owned gas operator Naftogaz, told a media briefing that the country requires 1.9 billion U.S. dollars in financing for gas purchases, much of which has already been secured.
"There is cautious optimism about raising funds and securing additional imports to ensure a sustainable autumn-winter season," Koretskyi said.
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the heating season in Ukraine will begin on Oct. 28.
