Moscow [Russia], August 4: Ukraine and Russia said on Thursday that they had destroyed each other's drones, with Ukraine reporting 15 downed Iranian-made Shahed drones Russia fired overnight and Russia saying it destroyed six Ukrainian ones.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the destruction of the Russian drones on Thursday, adding that seven Russian reconnaissance drones were also destroyed. There was initially no information about damage or casualties.
The Russian Defence Ministry announced on Thursday that it had destroyed six Ukrainian drones in an attack on the Kaluga area, some 190km south-west of Moscow. There were no casualties or damage, according to official reports, but this is often not possible to independently
verify.
Meanwhile in Washington, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on Wednesday evening that Russia's attacks on Ukrainian ports with grain silos are probably targeted attacks to drive up food prices.
By keeping Ukrainian grain off the world market, Russia could hope to profit from higher prices, the ISW said.
The experts referred to the destruction of 40,000 tonnes of grain in a port in the Odessa area on Wednesday.
According to the report, the quantities destroyed by military attacks have now risen to more than 200,000 tonnes of grain since Russia terminated the agreement to allow for the shipment of Ukrainian foodstuffs across the Black Sea on July 17.
