Ukraine shells power grid in Russian-occupied Donetsk region

Nov 19, 2025

Kiev [Ukraine], November 19: Ukrainian drone attacks have caused extensive damage to the power grid in the Russian-occupied part of the Donetsk region, the occupying administration announced on Tuesday.
Denis Pushilin, the Moscow-appointed head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, said on Telegram that around 65% of consumers were without power.
As a result, district heating and water supplies had also failed in several towns. Schools and nurseries would only open where heating was available.
Pushilin said the overnight Ukrainian attack hit the thermal power plants in Zuivka and Starobesheve. There had also reportedly been attacks the night before.
On Monday, around 500,000 people in the Russian-occupied part of the Donetsk region were temporarily without power. (DPA)
