New York [US], March 12: The United Nations Security Council was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday on the fighting in Lebanon as war roils the Middle East.
The council, the UN's most powerful body, was scheduled to meet at 10am (1400 GMT) in New York.
Diplomats said the council was also expected to vote on a draft resolution introduced by Bahrain on behalf of members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The Gulf states continue to face rocket and drone attacks from Iran.
The draft resolution calls for an immediate halt to Iranian attacks on Gulf states and other neighbouring countries, as well as an end to the use of proxy groups.
Iran-backed groups include Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.Hezbollah resumed rocket attacks on Israel about a week ago in response to Israel's killing of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, prompting large-scale Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
