UN warns of looming global social crisis driven by inequality and mistrust

Apr 25, 2025

New York [US], April 25: The United Nations is warning of a looming global social crisis fuelled by economic uncertainty, rising inequality and widespread mistrust in institutions.
According to the World Social Report, published by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York on Thursday, these pressures risk destabilizing societies around the world. The report finds that more than 2.8 billion people, or more than one-third of the global population, survive on the equivalent of $2.15 to $6.85 per day.
Additionally, income inequality is rising in countries home to roughly 65% of the world's population. Around 60% of people globally say they fear losing their jobs, and more than half report having little or no trust in their governments. (DPA)
