UN's migration body says human trafficking for online fraud rising rapidly

Geneva [Switzerland], July 29: The United Nations' International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday that hundreds of thousands of people are being exploited by human traffickers for online fraud every year.
They are lured abroad with false promises of well-paid work, only to be locked up, monitored and forced to take part in fraudulent schemes. The IOM describes this practice by criminal gangs as one of the fastest-growing forms of human trafficking.
The figures have risen rapidly over the past two or three years, said IOM Director Amy Pope. She estimates that around 300,000 people worldwide are working in such centres. (DPA)
