Jul 29, 2024

California [US], July 29: According to AFP yesterday, citing local authorities, a fire broke out fiercely in Northern California (USA), burning nearly 142,000 hectares of forest, 140 structures and forcing more than 4,000 people to evacuate. This is currently one of the largest fires ever in this state.
According to the California Fire Department , the fire is still not under control despite the efforts of about 2,500 people and dozens of helicopters and planes. Thick smoke from the wildfire has blown into neighboring areas. Air quality warnings and advisories have also been issued in many US states such as Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming.
In a related development, another large, fast-moving fire has devastated large areas in the town of Jasper in the province of Alberta (Canada), forcing the evacuation of 25,000 people. Strong winds and hot weather have made firefighting efforts extremely difficult.
