Kashmiri activist raises PoGB human rights concerns at UNHRC

Geneva, Switzerland (ANI), September 26: Human rights defender from Jammu and Kashmir Javed Beigh raised concerns over alleged human rights violations and violence in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) during the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council. He alleged that the Pakistani establishment and Rangers were responsible for violence and rights violations in the region. Beigh also raised the detention of Awami Action Committee members, including 70-year-old Advocate Ahsan Ali, and alleged that they were kept in jail for three months without bail and placed under Schedule 4 of Pakistan’s anti-terrorism law. He also raised the alleged killing of teenage boy Rayan Ali in PoGB by Pakistani Rangers. Beigh urged the international community and UNHRC members to take cognisance of the issues and hold Pakistan responsible. He reiterated his position that PoGB and PoJK are part of Jammu and Kashmir.
