Italy donates 1 mln euros for rehabilitation of Sursock Museum in Lebanon's Beirut

Beirut (Italy), May 17: Italy on Sunday donated 1 million euros (1.2 million U.S. dollars) for the rehabilitation of Beirut's Sursock Museum destroyed by the blasts at Beirut's port last year.
Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni signed a funding agreement with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for this purpose at the Sursock Museum, the National News Agency reported.
The rehabilitation of the museum will take place through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, it said.
"Today's agreement comes within the framework of Italy's commitment to preserving and rehabilitating Lebanon's cultural heritage which was destroyed by the blasts," Sereni said during the signing ceremony.
Two huge explosions rocked Beirut's port on Aug. 4 of last year, killing at least 200 people, while injuring around 6,000 others and destroying a big part of the city.
